Water heating accounts for around a quarter of the average Australian household’s energy use, so reducing the energy used by water heating products can make a big difference to the environment. That’s why we’re committed to developing products such as solar and heat pump water heaters that use renewable energy; smart electric water heaters that use excess energy from your rooftop solar PV system; and high-efficiency gas water heaters that help reduce water-heating energy use.
Solar Hot Water
Depending on the model, solar hot water heaters can gather up to between 65% to 80% of their hot water heating energy needs from the sun, making them energy-efficient and better for the environment with a low greenhouse gas impact. Rheem and its affiliated companies, including the renewable market leader Solahart, have been manufacturing solar water heaters in Australia for over 70 years, and are an internationally recognised pioneer in solar water heating technology, with our products exported to over 70 countries. Our solar water heaters are available in a range of configurations and are sold under the brand names Solahart and Rheem.
Heat Pump Hot Water
Heat pump technology (also known as hybrid heat pumps) has only been common for water heating in the Australian market since the late 2000’s. Since then, it has seen tremendous acceptance and growth. Heat Pump water heaters use heat naturally in the air around us as their main energy source – a totally renewable energy source.They can work all year round, day or night, in sunshine or rain and even on cooler days.
Rheem was an early adopter of heat pump technology for water heating, and our range of heat pumps continues to evolve to ensure that our products meet the varying demands of the Australian environment. This includes a range of locally manufactured heat pump water heaters with Low Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerants.
Gas
Rheem Australia has been a long-term leader in high-efficiency gas products – we launched the world’s first five-star gas storage water heater in the 1990’s (Rheem “Stellar”), and we continued to innovate ever since with a range of 6 Star energy-efficient continuous flow gas water heaters. Today, we supply a comprehensive range of high-efficiency gas storage and continuous flow gas water heaters so Australians can enjoy the perfect shower every day.
