RHEEM AUSTRALIA SET TO ADVANCE APPRENTICE PLUMBERS WITH $60K IN GRANTS AVAILABLE

Calling all apprentice plumbers and gas fitters. 20 Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants are up for grabs!

Sydney, Australia, 17 February 2025 – Rheem is keeping its commitment to support more up-and-coming apprentice plumbers in the progression of their careers – offering 20 grants for the second year in a row.

Rheem Australia, a leading manufacturer of water heaters, has been investing in the next generation of plumbers for over a decade. Through the Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants program, the organisation recognises and acknowledges apprentices who demonstrate a high level of dedication, passion, and commitment to the industry.

"Since 2012, Rheem has supported more than 240 apprentice plumbers through this program. We want to shine a light on those who are not only committed to our industry but are doing everything they can to build a successful career,” says John Collignon Marketing Director of Rheem Australia.

Last year, the number of Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants awards was doubled to a total of 20 grants to support more apprentices advance their careers. Five $1,000 recognition awards were also added.

Following a record number of quality applications last year Rheem will again offer 20 grants as part of the 2025 program. Recipients will receive $2,000 to assist with their TAFE/RTO fees and textbooks, and $1,000 to help build the essential trade toolbox.

“Applications are open to Australians enrolled in TAFE/RTO or are participating in a school-based apprenticeship and are employed by a licensed plumber or gas fitter. We encourage all apprentices, from school leavers to mature age career switchers to apply,” says Mr Collignon.

Apprentices need more support

Of the apprentice plumbers who applied for a grant in 2024, 56 per cent were aged 20 or younger, and 28 per cent were aged between 21 and 29. Regardless of age or experience, getting the right support or career opportunities is a challenge many share.

Rheem found that 45 per cent of applicants highlighted a need for better support or advancement opportunities.

“The Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants is our way to give back to the plumbing community, build confidence among apprentices, and support them as they embark on a journey to become a qualified plumber,” says Mr Collignon.

“My advice to any apprentice considering applying this year is to be yourself. We want to hear about your journey, including your challenges and achievements as an apprentice plumber,” added Mr Collignon.

Meet 2024 RAPG recipient, Chelsea Cooper

Among the 2024 RAPG recipients was 23-year-old, New South Wales-based, Chelsea Cooper.

Now a fourth-year apprentice with Mr. Splash Plumbing, Chelsea faced significant pushback attempting to secure an apprenticeship and struggled to find an employer to take her on.

In her application, Chelsea outlined how support from family helped her to get through challenging moments as an apprentice, her commitment to completing her Certificate III in Plumbing and her goal of one day starting her own maintenance company.

Since she was awarded the Rheem grant, Chelsea has continued to excel not only in her studies but also in the physical aspects of her job.

“The grant has helped me greatly and given me confidence, particularly as I enter the final year of my apprenticeship. The tool voucher allowed me to purchase more power tools, so I can be efficient in my work projects. I’m looking forward to completing my apprenticeship and working towards having my own maintenance company one day."

“To those considering applying this year, my advice is to go for it! It’s an easy process and is incredibly rewarding,” says Chelsea.

Applications will close at 11:59pm on Sunday 27 April 2025. Successful grant recipients will be announced in June.
