2020 Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants
Once again we're calling for applications for our Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants program.
There are 10 x $3000 grants on offer.
The Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants provide help with costs for textbooks, tools or TAFE/RTO tuition fees. Ten recipients will receive $2,000 each in cash plus a $1,000 tool voucher to help them start or continue with their apprenticeship journey.
This is the eighth year Rheem will be providing help to 10 worthy apprentices. It is our way of investing in the industry’s future as well as thanking it for its ongoing support.
Applications open Monday, 10 February 2020 and close Monday, 30 March, 2020. Winners will be announced on Friday, 8 May 2020.
The grants are available to apprentice plumbers and gas fitters across Australia – both current and those who are just starting their courses in 2020*.
*Grant recipients from previous years are not eligible to enter.

To be eligible for consideration, all sections of the application must be completed. Applications take up to 30 minutes to complete, and it is recommended you complete them in one sitting.
To prepare for your application, make sure you have the contact details of your teacher/assessor and employer ready, an approved employee reference (100 words or less), and some ideas about why you are deserving of the grant.

Why does Rheem run the Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants program?
The Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants program was founded with the purpose to ease the financial pressure faced by apprentice plumbers. Rheem is passionate about investing in the skills and training of industry newcomers and the grants are Rheem’s way of thanking the Australian plumbing industry for its ongoing support.
When do entries open and close?
Applications for the 2020 Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants open on Monday 10 February 2020 and close on Monday 30 March 2020, with recipients announced on Friday 8 May 2020.
How do I apply?
To apply online please visit www.rheem.com.au/apprentice. To be eligible, applicants must supply TAFE/RTO and employer details.
By applying, applicants acknowledge they understand their educators and employers may be contacted to validate their submission.
Prior to commencing the application form, applicants must obtain a reference from their employer. The reference must be 100 words or less and be included in the submission.
Please ensure all sections are fully completed by Monday 30 March 2020 via the online submission form. Please note all forms must be submitted electronically.
How do I know if I am eligible to apply for a grant?
If you are an apprentice plumber currently undertaking an apprenticeship in Australia and are studying at TAFE, university or with a Registered Training Organisation, then you are eligible to apply for the 2020 Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants.
I entered previously. Can I enter again?
If you applied in previous years but didn’t receive a grant, you are welcome to apply again in 2020. Apprentices who have received a Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grant previously are not eligible to apply for a 2020 grant.
Who needs to nominate me?
Apprentices must nominate themselves. All submissions must include a 100 words or less reference from their employer to be considered.
I live very far away from my TAFE facility and won’t be seeing my teacher/assessor before entries close. Can I still enter?
It is a requirement that your teacher/assessor is aware that we may be in contact to verify your application. So as long as you can communicate that with your teacher and supply their contact details it won’t be an issue and your entry won’t be affected.
If I am employed by a Group Training Organisation but am doing my practical work experience with a host employer, who should provide the employer reference?
This reference can be produced by either your teacher/assessor at the Group Training Organisation, or your host employer.
Do I need to be in a certain age group to apply for a grant?
The Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants are open to apprentice plumbers and gasfitters of any age, whether young or mature age. We have had school-based apprentices right through to an apprentice aged 64 apply!
Are there restrictions on what the grant money can be used for?
In 2020 there will be 10 grants valued at more than $3,000 each. Each grant will comprise of $2,000 in cash to go towards TAFE/RTO fees and textbooks. This part of the grant will be transferred into the recipient’s bank account via electronic transfer. While this money can be spent at the recipient’s discretion, Rheem encourages the recipient put it towards TAFE/RTO fees and textbooks.
Each grant also includes a $1,000 voucher to go towards tools, in addition to a tote tool bag. Rheem will supply a tool voucher to the plumbing supplies merchant of the recipient’s choosing.
What do the judges look for?
Judges for the 2020 Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants will be looking for applicants who embody the qualities that make an exceptional plumber. We are looking for applicants who are passionate about what they do and how they’ve overcome adversity to get where they are.
There will also be the opportunity to detail your involvement in your community and career aspirations for the future.
When will the winners be announced and how will they be notified?
Recipients of the 2020 Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants will be announced on Friday 8 May 2020. The successful recipients’ names will be placed on the Rheem website – www.rheem.com.au/apprentice – and they will be contacted by a Rheem representative by email and phone.
Who will be judging the Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants?
A panel of independent industry experts and a Rheem adjudicator will judge the 2020 Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants.
