Solar Water heaters work by absorbing energy from the sun's rays into the water passing through the roof mounted solar collectors. Typically water passes through channels (known as "risers") in the solar collector and is where the water is initially heated. This heated water returns into the storage tank and cooler water at the bottom of the tank is drawn upwards through the collectors. As the water moves out of the collectors and into the tank, the tank gradually gets hotter until the water inside reaches its maximum stored temperature.
