2018 Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants announced

12 December, 2017

Are you wanting to train as a plumber but finding it difficult to afford to kick start your new career? Are you a plumber who has an apprentice who would benefit from a financial boost?

For the sixth year running, Rheem Australia will help 10 worthy recipients start or continue a plumbing apprenticeship by providing $30,000 in total grants as part of the 2018 Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants program.

As the country’s leading producer of water heaters, Rheem marked its 75th anniversary in 2012 with the launch of the Apprentice Plumber Grants to thank the Australian plumbing industry for its ongoing support and to invest in the industry’s future. Since the Grants program was launched, Rheem has awarded $180,000 in total grants to 160 apprentice plumbers.

“Rheem is an active part of the plumbing community and our involvement doesn’t stop at providing products and innovation. In fact, some of the best assistance we can provide is supporting the education and training of the next generation of plumbers,” explains Rheem’s Chief Operating Officer Chris Taylor.

“Feedback from previous grant applicants, apprentices, plumbing teachers and employers has shown the greatest financial hardships that apprentices face are affording fees, text books and tools. That’s why in 2018 we’ll again be providing our 10 recipients with $2,000 to go towards TAFE/RTO fees and text books, plus a $1,000 tool voucher.”

In 2017, the 10 grant recipients included males and females from a variety of locations and backgrounds, including a sixth-generation plumber, an East African refugee, a single parent, and a former primary school teacher, all of whom share a desire to become part of the next generation of plumbers: “Over the years we have had a great number of applicants from all walks of life and ages, ranging from school-based apprentices to mature-age apprentices – even including one aged 64! Rheem is committed to helping them achieve their goals,” says Chris.

Applications for the 2018 Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants open on Monday January 29, 2018 and close on Monday March 19, 2018. Apprentices can nominate themselves or their employer can nominate them on their behalf.

Application forms will be available at www.rheem.com.au/apprentice and can submitted by email, post or fax. Visit https://www.facebook.com/rheemapprenticeplumbers or the Rheem website for further information and updates.

Applications will be reviewed by three judges, and the 10 Grants recipients will be announced on Friday April 27, 2018 on the Rheem Australia website.
