High efficiency heat pump to help boost NABERS rating

140 St Georges Terrace is a landmark address located at the focal point of Perth’s CBD.

Surrounded by the city’s banking and financial institutions, it also offers close proximity to Hay Street and Murray Street shopping malls, as well as leading eateries and hotels.

As part of a wider 2017 refurbishment, EoT facilities were retrofitted with a view to improving building sustainability and marketability. With the 14-shower facility required to accommodate an estimated peak demand of 2520-litres over the one-hour morning period where office workers arrive for work, the project brief called for the provision of a highly efficient hot water plant.

The plant also needed to fit the challenging confines of former car park spaces and be located near the EoT shower facilities. Rendering the challenge even more difficult was the space’s sloping aspect, the inclusion of a staircase, and a need for easy service access.

The Rheem Commercial team quickly ascertained that the Rheem heat pump system met all aspects of the brief. Rather than using a unit that discharged air vertically, Rheem provided the stackable horizontal discharge model, which is highly suitable for difficult spaces. Meantime, the four commercial storage tanks were positioned on a stepped concrete plint separate from the vertically-racked heat pumps, which were positioned adjacent to the inline Rheem Heavy Duty Electric boost plant.

With the Rheem Commercial team having been involved in the project from design through to commissioning, Rob Dalrymple, Rheem’s Commercial Sales Manager for WA, says the value of their expertise was apparent throughout the entire process.

“This project demonstrated the depth of technical and product knowledge that Rheem Commercial can provide from design through to install and beyond,” he says. “Of course, credit must go to the hydraulic consultant and the plumber, who played key roles in delivering a highly successful outcome. In this instance, everyone combined to deliver an outstanding facility that allows up to 100 bike commuters and joggers to enjoy a hot shower on a cold Perth winter morning.”
